Clutch Automation Private Limited was incorporated in Sri Lanka in 2006. At the time, the broadcast and content creation industries were undergoing a significant metamorphosis. Content acquisition and post-production workflows were transitioning from analog to digital, AV and IT workflows were beginning to merge in the industry, tapes were beginning to be phased out for file-based workflows and High Definition production was slowly being adopted across the region. The founders of Clutch observed a substantial lack in the availability of products, services, consultancy and education in this dynamically transitioning industry. Clutch was founded to fill this very gap.
A decade later Clutch has grown from strength-to-strength. Clutch today, operates as a leading broadcast system integrator in the country. In addition, Clutch is also the distributor or authorized reseller for multiple global broadcast and IT brands. Clutch also provides media education to multiple governmental and private organizations.

Clutch Automation Private Limited is incorporated in Sri Lanka as a private limited liability company registered as a broadcast system integrator. This made Clutch Automation the first legal entity to operate as a Broadcast SI in Sri Lanka.
February 2007
Clutch Extreme Pro NLE becomes the first integrated product under the Clutch brand. Sri Lanka's premiere broadcaster Independent Television Network Limited purchases the first Clutch Extreme Pro system.
June 2008
Clutch Automation becomes the exclusive Sri Lanka partner for MasterPlay GmbH of Switzerland.
December 2008
Clutch PlayOut is unveiled under the Clutch brand. Independent Television Network purchases the first PlayOut server and deploys it in their newsroom for news play-out. This made Clutch PlayOut the first play-out server deployed in the country for nationwide terrestrial broadcast.
March 2009
The University of Peradeniya becomes the first of many educational bodies to deploy Clutch Automation's solutions. This in turn kick starts Clutch Automation venture into the provision of media-centric education.

Clutch RAPID NLE replaces the Clutch Extreme Pro NLE. RAPID is capable of multiple tracks of HD post-production in real-time. Today Clutch RAPID is one of the leading non-linear editing systems in the country. ITN alone uses more than 30 systems.

Clutch takes part in Infotel-2010, the largest technology exhibition in Sri Lanka. Clutch wins the 'Best Stall Overall' award, then goes on to win the coveted 'Most Tech-Innovative Stall' award presented by the Federation of Information Technology Industry Sri Lanka.

Clutch inaugurates its media training center in Colombo and starts conducting regular classes and workshops. 'Video editing' is the first subject to be introduced. In-depth training is provided and successful students are certified by Clutch. Over the years, Clutch certified editors have become sought-after employees in the industry.

Clutch Automation partners with Thevana Esa Photography and Media Association of Sri Lanka in order to provide media-centric education in the Chilaw and Negombo regions. The success of this partnership inspires Clutch to form additional alliances with multiple societies and organizations from all around the country for the dissemination of education.

Clutch demonstrates the technological future of TV broadcast to more than half a million people at Deyata Kirula 2012 National Development Exhibition held in Anuradhapura district by Invitation of the government TV station ITN. This was a rare occasion where a private company was invited to participate in a government exhibition.
